Expelled from their ancestral home on Skeleton Key, Florida, C Clarence Crocapoo and his 3 brothers Yacobi, King, and Emil are sent by an evil governor to New York City to be adopted as 'rescue dogs.' The crocapoos, though, are no mere pups: they are a storied mix of poodle and Florida crocodile, and have a "tail-tell" greenish hue, and remarkable swimming powers.

Whereas 3 of the brothers are quickly adopted by New Yorkers, C. Clarence, the eldest brother, is exiled to the far reaches of a beachfront town, where he is sold to an unsuspecting couple who spend their time partying and drinking at a posh country club, then sailing the choppy seas of the Sound.

Following a catastrophic summer storm that wrecks their sailboat, Clarence is set adrift, floating down the Sound to New York Harbor, where he seeks shelter on an island dominated by locals, pigeons, rats, and friendly 'cockaroaches.'

From there, he schemes, with help from his new buddies, to find his way to Manhattan, which will require an epic watery ride on a rickety wooden vessel.
